Age of 40 Years is a special age because it is mentioned in the Qur’an Kareem, “The hard code from God, Allah SWT”. When the age has reached 40 years, then a person is considered to have reached the peak age of life both in terms of physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual. Age 40 Years is a mature age, considered a person that has left his youth and stepped into true adulthood.
On the other hand Age 40 is considered a person who has been sleek, given the time limit in this age as a warning to hasten repentance. Should a Muslim renew his repentance and truly return to Allah SWT in earnest.
Age 40 Years old is the age limit for doing introspection, throwing ignorance when young, more careful, seeing things with wisdom and full of research, increasingly affirming the purpose of life, making gray hair as a warning and increasing gratitude. When Age 40 years, then the increase of one’s interest in religion, while the young when away with religion. Many began to close the aurat and follow religious studies. If anybody has reached this age, but there has been no interest in religion, then it could be a bad sign of the age end in the world.
When Age 40 years, then no longer think much of the “future” world, the pursuit of career and wealth. But already far thought about his future fate in the afterlife. If until the age of 40 years are still fond of sin and immoral, leaving prayer, adultery, and others, it will be more difficult for him to quit the habit. When Age 40 Years, then fix what has passed and take good care of the remaining days of age, before the soul reaches the throat.
Abdullah bin Abbas r.a. said, “Whoever reaches the age of 40 years and his good deeds is not good and can not defeat his bad deeds, then let him get ready for hell”. The same thing was affirmed by Imam Malik rahimahullah who said, “I find scholars in our country looking for the world and mingling with human beings until they come to their age of 40. If they have come to them, they have left humans, increase worship and knowledge “.
The Meaning is:
“When he grows up and is forty years old, he prays,” O my Lord, show me to be grateful for the blessings you have given me and to my father’s mother and that I may do the righteous deeds you have pleaded me to give me I will repent unto Thee and verily I am of the Muslims. ” (Q.S. al-Ahqâf: 15)
One of the features of the age of 40 years is reflected in the words from the Prophet of Muhammad SAW:
The Meaning is:
“A Muslim servant when he reaches forty years, Allah will ease hisab (his charity). If he reaches sixty years, God will give grace in the ability to return (repent) to Him. When he reaches seventy years, the inhabitants of the sky (angels) will love him. When he reaches eighty years, God will set his good deeds and wipe out his bad deeds. And when he is ninety years old, God will forgive his past sins and his later sins, God will also provide help to his family members, and God will record him as “the prisoner of God” on earth.” (H.R. Ahmad)
Some other Qur’anic verses that remind us about Age 4o year, including are:
“The more aged the weaker the hands grasp, because Allah SWT is educating us to release the love of the world.”
“The more aged the more blurry our eyes are, because God is brightening the eyes of the heart to see the afterlife.”
(Qs.Al Isra: 72)
“The more ages the sensitivities become more sensitive, because Allah is teaching that the hearts of the sentient beings are always exploited, but the heart that intertwines Allah Almighty never disappoints.”
(Qs.Al Lukman: 22)
“The more aged the falling of our teeth, for Allah is reminding us that one day we will fall into the land forever.”
(Qs.Ali Imran: 145)
“The more ages the more will be drawn to the strength of our bones and joints, for God is reminding us that soon our lives will be taken!” (Qs.An Nisa: 78)
“The ever-increasing age of our hair is white, for Allah is reminding the white shroud.”
(Qs.Ali Imran: 185)
“So does our hearts: the ever increasingly lonely and wanting to be alone, for Allah is educating us to give up human love and to be alone in the realms of barzakh.”
God, Allah SWT says:
حَتَّى إَذَا بَلَغَ أَشُدَّهُ وَبَلَغَ أَرْبَعِيْنَ سَنَةً قَالَ رَبِّ أَوْزِعْنِى أَنْ أَشْكُرَ نِعْمَتَكَ الَّتِى أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيَّ وَعَلَى وَالِدَيَّ وَأَنْ أَعْمَلَ صَالِحًا تَرْضَاهُ وَأَصْلِحْ لِى فِى ذُرِّيَّتِى إِنِّى تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَإِنِّى مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِيْنَ
The Meaning is:
“… So when he is an adult and he is 40 years old, he prays:” My Lord, give me a hint so that I can be grateful for Your blessings that You have given me and to both my parents, and that I may do righteous deeds You are pleased, and grant me the kindness that will flow through to my grandchildren. Indeed, I repent to You and indeed I belong to the Muslims. “(Surat al-Ahqaf : 15).
Imam Syafi’i rahimahullah when he reached the age of 40 years, he walked while wearing a stick. When asked, he replied, “In order for me to remember that I am a traveler, by God, I see myself today as a bird jailed in a cage, then the bird is loose in the air, except the sole of its foot is still moored in a cage. I do not have the remains of lust to settle in the world, I do not want my friends to give me any alms from the world, nor do they want to remind me of the hustle and bustle of the world, except for what syara ‘is common to me between me and he is God”.
Then, Abdullah bin Dawud rahimahullah said, “Salafs, if among them there are 40 years old, he began to fold the mattress, which will not sleep again throughout the night, always performing prayers, glorify and beristighfar Then chase after all the old age with charity -amal in the day after “. (Ihya Ulumiddin IV/410).
